On the evening of Wednesday 25th May 2011 in Maxwell’s Court, Kircubbin, a group of parishioners and visitors were treated to a gardening tour of the world in words and pictures. The presentation was given by Mount Stewart’s head gardener Phil Rollinson.
Phil introduced his presentation by telling us about the history of the gardens at Mount Stewart which were the brainchild of Lady Edith Londonderry who designed the gardens and imported plants, trees and shrubs from all around the world. The guests listened and watched in awe as he painted this wonderful picture of how the gardens evolved from virtually nothing but fields to the world famous gardens that they are now.
Following Phil’s presentation he answered questions from the audience as well as sharing some of his many anecdotes from his time at Mount Stewart. The evening concluded with the now equally famous and delicious supper provided by the Parish Social Committee.
Many thanks go to those who supported the event, Mr Phil Rollinson for his wonderful presentation, Peninsula Landscaping for sponsoring the event and not forgetting the Social Committee for the tasty supper.
