The last Sunday evening in August (28th) saw the Parish of Ardkeen’s, now annual, end of Summer Ceili which was held in McKenna Community Centre. A large crowd had gathered to dance the night away to the stirring and lively tunes of one of Ireland’s foremost musicians, JJ Carty.
The reels and jigs flew as the evening passed all too quickly and there were even a few Old Time Waltzes and Quicksteps thrown in for good measure so that everyone got something they liked. The dancers were not only kept on their toes by the music of JJ but also by the Bean a Tí for the evening, Maire Pollock, who hardly let the dancers draw breath before she called the next dance. Thanks to both of them for making the evening so enjoyable. Special thanks to the Social Committee for a wonderful supper, to all who donated prizes for the raffle and to Ballycran GAC for the use of the hall.
