A large number of parishioners, their families and friends gathered at the graveyards at St Joseph’s for the annual blessing of the graves on Sunday 19th June.Thankfully, it was a dry and warm afternoon despite the inclement weather that had gone before earlier in the week. Father Neeson was right as he told us after 9am Mass in St Mary’s Primary School that it was not going to rain and we would have a good day!
Father Mulholland assisted Father Neeson along with a visiting priest who was helping out in Portaferry for the weekend. The rosary was led by Ellen Mary Woods and Gerry Corr who started each decade with an appropriate reflection.
Following the final blessing, Father Neeson thanked everyone for coming and helping to make the afternoon a success. He commended those who kept the graves tidy, not only for the day but throughout the year and he said it was testimony to the esteem their loved ones were held and remembered St Patrick’s Church at Lisbane was also open throughout the day to allow visitors to call and view this historic church.
The afternoon concluded in the Old School where the Parish Social Committee provided welcome refreshments and allowed family, friends and visitors an opportunity to catch up with those who they may not have met since last year.
