A number of parishioners travelled to Lough Derg on Saturday 14th September for the annual one-day retreat to St Patrick’s Purgatory along with parishioners from Portaferry and Saintfield.
The day consisted of various spiritual exercises that were completed by all 390 pilgrims on the island and there was also time to sit, relax and enjoy the autumn sunshine. The day concluded with Mass in St Patrick’s Basilica where the new Prior, Fr Owen McEneaney, while welcoming all those there, also welcomed 101 year old Father Ambrose from Belleek.
It was a poignant day too as those pilgrims from the parish remembered Clare, who regularly joined the parish retreat in the past and who sadly passed away on 11th September and whose funeral took place on the day of the retreat. May she rest in peace.
