On Saturday 12th September, Fr Neeson and parishioners gathered at the former RAF airbase at Ballyhalbert for The ‘Finest of the Few’ event, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain and in particular to honour the Polish pilots who were stationed at Ballyhalbert during the Battle of Britain.
Fr Neeson, along with clergy from other denominations, conducted the ecumenical service which was joined by civic dignitaries, representatives of the local Polish community and local people from the surrounding villages including our own parishioners.
A number of pilots from Poland and other countries are buried in St Joseph’s Graveyard and are remembered at a Remembrance Service on the Saturday before Remembrance Day in November each year.
“Never, in the field of human conflict,
was so much owed by so many to so few.”
