On Wednesday 24th August 2016 St. Patrick’s Purgatory at Lough Derg was taken over for the day by the Diocese of Down and Connor. A One Day Retreat for this special Jubilee Year of Mercy was arranged for all the parishes of the Diocese and indeed over three hundred pilgrims made their way to the island.
The programme for the day included the Way of the Cross; Prayers of Intercession; Sacrament of Reconciliation and Celebration of the Eucharist. There was also ample time for private prayer and reflection in the quiet of this island retreat.
The Prior, Fr. Owen McEneaney, was joined by a number of the Priests of the Diocese to concelebrate the concluding Mass before pilgrims made their way back to the boats for the return journey home.
A wonderful faith-filled day was had by all to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
