Dublin, Ireland, was chosen by Pope Francis to host the World Meeting of Families from 21-26 August 2018, guided by the theme “The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World”.
Held every three years, this major international event brings together families from across the world to celebrate, pray and reflect upon the central importance of marriage and the family as the cornerstone of our lives, of society and of the Church.
In preparation for the World Meeting of Families a number of events took place within our Diocese of Down and Connor and also within our Pastoral Community of North Down and Ards.
These events included the visit of the Relics of St Therese and her mother and father, St Louis and St Zelie Martin to St Peter’s Cathedral in Belfast. There was also an opening Mass for WMOF2018 celebrated for our Pastoral Community in St Colmcille’s Church in Holywood at which Fr Neeson concelebrated with other priests from the Pastoral Community.
There are also pictures of some of the decorations that were put in place around the Diocese to help mark the event. These include Belfast and closer to home in Portaferry, Ballygalget and in the Parish of Ardkeen at St Joseph’s and St Mary Star of the Sea.
