20. November – Month of the Holy Souls ~ 2021

The month of November every year is a month when the Church remembers in a special way the Holy Souls, those who have gone before us.

This year, despite the continuing restrictions due to Covid 19, our Parish reverently remembered in a number of ways our deceased.

The November Dead Lists with the names of our loved ones, were placed in front of the Altars of both our Parish Churches for the month.

On the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, 1st and 2nd November, in addition to the outdoor Masses in the grounds of St Joeph’s, Ballycranbeg, Fr Alexander celebrated evening Masses in St Mary Star of the Sea Church, Nunsquarter, which were the first Masses celebrated inside the Church since June when Mass was celebrated for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Fr Alexander also celebrated Mass inside St Joseph’s Church on the next day, Wednesday 3rd November.

The re-introduction and continuing of indoor weekday Masses in our Parish Churches has been a blessing for our Parish and another small step to a return to normality in our faith practice in the Parish.

St Joseph’s GAA Club, Ballycran celebrated their Annual Mass for Deceased Members with Fr Alexander in the grounds of St Joseph’s on Tuesday, 9th November.

On the evening of Friday 12th November, Fr Alexander celebrated a Mass for the Bereaved in St Mary Star of the Sea to remember all those who died in the previous twelve months and their loved ones. During the Mass, Fr Alexander lit a special commemorative candle for each person who died during the year and these candles were then available for family members to take home with them. Any candles that were left were then burnt in the candle shrine before the Statue of St Mary, Star of the Sea.

Our final Act of Remembrance as a Parish for November was the Annual Remembrance Saturday Service at the War Graves in St Joseph’s Graveyard on Saturday 13th November.

“May the angels lead you into paradise;
may the martyrs receive you and lead you to the holy city Jerusalem.
May choirs of angels receive you and with Lazarus,
may you have eternal rest.”
