Ministry of the Word

The parish currently has 23 ‘Ordinary’ Ministers of the Word and 14 ‘other’ Ministers of the Word, who assist in the Liturgy of the Word at Mass.

‘Ordinary’ Ministers proclaim the First and Second Readings, as well as leading the recitation of the responsorial psalm and the Gospel Acclamation in the absence of a psalmist. They also proclaim the readings if requested to do so at other liturgical celebrations, such as our own ‘Carols in the Barn’

The ‘Other’ Ministers of the Word are a group of enthusiastic young people ranging in age from those who have recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation (and as such now being full members of the Church) to those in their late teens. They lead the intentions of the congregation in the Prayer of the Faithful.

‘Ordinary’ Ministers usually serve for 3 years, and may renew their service at that time. The only requirements are that you have received the Sacrament of Confirmation and have a strong clear voice. If you would like to be considered for this ministry please contact the Parish Priest.

The co-ordinator for this ministry is Ellen Mary Woods.
